A Wix Site Built From a Restaurant Template Was Costing Her Clients
The Grooming Room — Fort Collins, CO
Before
After
Rachel's website was built on a Wix template designed for restaurants. It had a stock photo of a golden retriever as the hero image, a "Menu" link in the navigation (which went to her services page), and a reservation widget that didn't connect to anything. She'd built it herself five years ago and hadn't touched it since.
The real problem wasn't that it was ugly — it was that it didn't work. 73% of her visitors were on mobile, and the site took 8.2 seconds to load on a phone. The phone number was embedded in an image, so mobile users couldn't tap to call. Her services page was a single paragraph that said "We offer grooming for all breeds!"
What We Found
We pulled her Google Analytics and the story was clear: people were finding her site and immediately leaving. 71% bounce rate on mobile. Average time on site: 22 seconds. Pages per session: 1.3 — meaning almost nobody clicked past the homepage.
She was getting about 34 clicks per month from Google, which wasn't terrible for Fort Collins. People were finding her — they just weren't staying. And she had no way to know how many of those visitors were picking up the phone, because there was no call tracking and the phone number wasn't even clickable.
What We Did
We built her a new site from scratch. Not another template — a site designed for how groomers actually get clients:
- Tappable phone number at the top of every page. Big, obvious, works on every phone.
- Online booking through her existing Gingr account. A "Book Now" button that goes straight to her real scheduling system.
- Services and pricing grid. Every service listed with what's included and what it costs. No "call for a quote" — groomers who list prices book more appointments because people know what to expect.
- Before-and-after gallery with photos of her actual work. She had hundreds of these on her Instagram — we picked the best 20.
- Google reviews embedded on the homepage. She had 68 reviews with a 4.9 average. Her old site didn't mention them anywhere.
- Schema markup so Google shows her hours, reviews, and phone number directly in search results.
On the SEO side, we gave every page a unique title tag and meta description, added location-specific content ("dog grooming in Fort Collins" instead of just "dog grooming"), and set up a proper site structure with internal links between services.
What Changed
Mobile load time dropped from 8.2 seconds to 2.1. Bounce rate went from 71% to 38%. Pages per session nearly tripled — people were actually exploring the site, looking at services, checking prices, reading reviews.
Monthly organic clicks went from 34 to 189 over four months, partly from the SEO improvements and partly because Google rewards sites that people actually engage with. Her online booking rate went from 0% (it didn't exist) to 34% of all appointments — meaning a third of her clients now book themselves without a phone call.
Rachel said the online booking alone was worth it. "I used to spend an hour a day answering the phone for scheduling. Now a third of my clients just book themselves."
